Description
Most honeyeaters have tongues with filaments down the sides which they use while drinking to move water towards the rear of their mouths. There's a lot of tongue action when honeyeaters drink and all of the birds here are honeyeaters.
There are four Blue-faced Honeyeaters to kick off. The closest one with the khaki eye paches is a youngster. To its left is a sub-adult with aqua eye patches. The two at the back seem to be full adults.
Next up is the first Noisy Friarbird and a second joins at 1:05. Black head, big casque (lump) on its beak...striking bird. It's joined at 0:36 by a relative, a Little Friarbird – and more arrive soon after.
There are four species of Friarbird in Australia – the Little is the smallest and the only one with feathers on its head. Friarbirds are honeyeaters so nectar and insects are the bulk of their diets.
Cheers folks!
