Description

In this video, I walk you through the step-by-step installation of a Westin headache rack on my Dodge truck. This headache rack is available in both black and white powder-coated finishes—I'm using the black version for a clean, rugged look that also adds solid functionality. #WestinHeadacheRack #DodgeTruckMods #TruckAccessories #RAM1500 #TonneauCover #TruckDIY #CanoeHauling #RAM2500 #WestinAutomotive Website: http://4diyers.com Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/4diyers Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/4diyers Twitter: https://twitter.com/4DIYers Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/4diyers/ Tumblr: http://4diyers.tumblr.com Pintrest: https://www.pinterest.com/4diyers/ 💪 Why install a headache rack? Protects your rear window from shifting cargo Adds extra tie-down points for hauling Gives you the option to mount auxiliary lights Enhances the overall look of your truck Compatible with most tonneau covers (I kept mine!) 📏 Measurements & Fitment Tips: The rack (without brackets) has a clearance width of approx. 71 ¾ inches I confirmed the mounting brackets are wide enough to work with my tonneau cover Detailed measurements are shown to help ensure correct placement on your own truck 🔧 What you’ll need: Westin headache rack (comes with all mounting hardware) Supplied Allen wrench 18mm socket & wrench Step drill, tape, flat & lock washers 🛠️ Installation Process Overview: Removed the tonneau cover Installed the mounting brackets on the rack first Taped and marked slotted holes to avoid interference under the truck bed Drilled pilot holes and finished with a step drill Touched up bare metal with paint to prevent rust Used Westin’s threaded stud and pull wire system for secure mounting Carefully aligned the rack and installed hardware Loosened and retightened bolts to let the rack settle into place ⚠️ Pro Tip: Use a tape measure to ensure symmetry on both sides. Small adjustments in rack position are possible due to the slotted hole design. 🧰 Tonneau Cover Compatibility: While the rack fit well overall, I did need to remove a foam strip from the front of the bed to allow the tonneau to close properly. The mounting bolts clear the rubber gasket, so no sealing issues there. I do have to slightly pull back the cover when flipping it up, but everything functions as it should. 🚣‍♂️ Bonus: I recently picked up a canoe, and this rack will be a game-changer for transport. No more resting it on the roof! 📌 Stay tuned: I'll be posting a full review of this Westin headache rack in the coming weeks, so don’t forget to subscribe and turn on notifications! © 4DIYers 2013 All Rights Reserved No part of this video or any of its contents may be reproduced, copied, modified or adapted, without the prior written consent of the author.
