Description

This weekend's video goes over what I've been doing pretty much solidly for the past week and a half, and that's throwing, trimming and handling 200 mugs. This film focuses on the handle pulling, my favourite part of the process, it makes a nice change from sitting down, no? I discuss working on large collections of work, hot to manage the drying properly, without vessels turning too firm, together with manner of other topics related to the process of being a production potter. And apologies for the teasing, I have a habit of doing that... I've been making these as part of a project I've been working on, some of you have guessed a few of the specifics but I'll be able to flesh out this video later in much greater detail that includes lots of glaze tests. You might even be able to get a hold of one of these mugs too. Thanks so much for taking your time to watch, I really appreciate it. 🫖 • If you'd like to watch a more thorough handle pulling guide, which covers many of the skills not described in this video, I recommend watching this: https://youtu.be/8xtt5_PXaDg 📖 • ORDER MY BOOK: https://geni.us/bymyhands 🏺 • You may also be interested in my 'A Beginner's Guide' series, which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2WJhtTF0eGhQwf8g2LHcom_KrvJpH_JT Timecodes: 0:00 - Introduction, the throwing & trimming 1:26 - Some of my favourite handles by other potters 3:33 - The tools I use 4:32 - Pulling the initial handle 'blanks' 7:23 - How to identify when the mugs are ready for handles 8:00 - Scoring, slipping & attaching the blank 11:45 - Discussing how best to dry these 12:40 - Some tips & tricks 15:12 - Some advice for working on larger batches like this 17:09 - Why I enjoy production pottery 19:47 - Tidying up the handle join 22:07 - Clean up • Find out much more via the link below! https://linktr.ee/floriangadsby • Get in touch here: https://www.floriangadsby.com/contact • 💌 • Sign up to my newsletter here: https://www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter
