Rescuing Magellan, a juvenile Black Flying-Fox stuck in a stairwell

Magellan, is a 20 week old Black Flying-Fox who got herself stuck in a stairwell. They can't get out if they can't climb the slippery stairs, and if they can't see their way out. They can't stand on their legs to get height and reach. The MOP said she was really bad and thought she was dead, but she opened her eyes and stayed clutched to a stone as if it were her lifeline. Weirdly she wasn't all that happy to be rescued, and gave me quite a difficult time; she was too cranky to take the glucose and she was very thrashy. At home, her disposition didn't improve; she was combative and bitey and didn't understand the notion of cooperation. I put her to bed with analgesia, glucose and fluids and hoped she'd settle down. Cooperation still doesn't seem to be part of her vocabulary. This dark eyed girl with stars her eyes and the darkness of space, in her depths, was named Magellan after the Magellanic clouds of the night sky. Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties.
