Dramatic Road Rage Erupts in Jakarta as Wrong-Way Driver Sparks Chaos || 2026

Tensions boiled over in Jakarta when an angry crowd swarmed a Toyota Calya that had brazenly driven against the flow of traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari Raya, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon (25/2/2026). The car, bearing license plate D-1640-AHB, was attacked by furious motorists after the driver allegedly chose to take the opposite lane to avoid heavy congestion. The reckless move triggered a chase and left several vehicles damaged in the chaos. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, said the driver had been traveling from Ancol toward Senen at around 5:15 p.m. WIB when traffic began to build up. “Because of the congestion, the driver took the opposing lane, which provoked other road users,” Reynold explained. The driver and the vehicle have since been secured by the Traffic Accident Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police for further questioning. Authorities have also carried out a urine test to assess the driver’s condition and are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the incident.
