Named after the video game, the idea is that everyone who’s trapped in the circus can never leave because they aren’t really the humans they think they are. They’re digital copies of human minds! They just put on a headset, got their brains scanned, took the headset off and then went about their lives. For the longest time I actually hated this theory, for reasons I’ll explain later. But after episode 8, not only do I believe this theory was practically confirmed, the whole trauma barrage sequence made me realize something. Kinger aside, everyone’s moment seems to have heavy implications. Coupled with what we know about Scratch and the illness he grappled with - I’m confident in saying that the final twist of Digital Circus won’t just be that they’re copies - it’ll be that their human counterparts are already dead. They can’t get back to the macro verse, even if they tried, because there’s no bodies to return to. And I know that sounds like a theory that exists solely to be dark, edgy and shocking…but the show just abruptly killed off its mascot in the midst of a crashout and defeated the horrors of demonetization so, just let me cook, okay?!
