Description
This Ngā Poutama Matawhenua webinar introduces the Geographic Information Systems micro-credential offered by the Southern Institute of Technology. The session is aimed at iwi, hapū, Māori organisations, trusts, and whānau who are interested in gaining practical GIS knowledge that can support mahi across whenua, taiao, planning, and environmental kaupapa.
Programme Manager Jordon Traill from SIT explains how the micro-credential works, the skills that are taught, and how the course can fit alongside full time mahi. The course is delivered using a HyFlex approach, allowing participation either face to face or online from anywhere around the motu.
The session provides an overview of the course structure, the types of GIS skills that are developed, and how learners can use GIS tools to support mapping, spatial analysis, and decision making for kaupapa Māori.
Following the main session, our facilitator Duane Wilkins shares a couple of resource sites that could be useful in assisting your GIS Mapping journey.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou for joining this kaupapa
