Why I sold the Sherco 300SE. And what I replaced it with! There is a bit of confusion for some viewers about what I am riding. Some viewers still think I am riding a Sherco 300SE but I actually sold it over a year ago. Since then, I've been riding a Beta Xtrainer. Why? A quick note, we have already done a Sherco 300SE review if you want to see that. In my 60s it's getting progressively harder to wrestle these dirt motorbikes through slow terrain. And the lighter weight and nimble handling of the Xtrainer is much easier on my creaky bones, ligaments and muscles. A few people have asked what I didn't like about it in the Sherco 300SE review comments. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. There wasn't anything to dislike really. I certainly miss the engine. That electronic power valve resulted in some serious grunt at low revs - perfect for our riding! The engine felt smooth due to that counter-balancer. The Sherco 300SE is not as smooth as a TBI engine but quite close. The overall handling was impressive. The suspension was a bit firm for our type of riding but was excellent once the speed picked up. The Sherco 300SE handlebars were a bit low for my height but easily fixed with bar risers. I fit these to every motorbike anyway. Like any brand, Sherco has gradually resolved lots of known issues over the years. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos. Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. The Sherco 300SE Adler clutch plates can be very hit and miss. Unfortunately my brother's 250SE had burned clutch plates at very low hours and they needed replacing. Zero issues with mine. This seems to be the only real issue nowadays that might occasionally affect some riders. But overall I loved the Sherco. And in recent years we've seen a pile of them here in Australia due to their spreading reputation and some competitive pricing. So what has the Beta Xtrainer been like over the past year? As always it's about compromises. In slow technical terrain it's fantastic. It's light. Nimble. Grunty. Very linear power. But the moment you get into third gear or higher it is no longer in its element. The cheap suspension starts bucking. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques. The steering is too quick. If the other guys are on an open trail and hit the throttle I just let them go. It's too nerve-wracking trying to ride the Xtrainer fast! Would I buy a Sherco again? If they could make it a lot lighter... definitely! And I was reading about weight reduction in both the 2025 and 2026 models. If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills. Let's see what the future holds. What are your criteria for the ultimate enduro motorbike? Have you found one that fits the bill perfectly? Or do you find there's always some level of compromise? Let us know in the comments!
