Abubakar Malami, the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, is being hunted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. It’s no news that Malami served under the late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, for almost 8 years. During that period, the 58-year-old Senior Advocate of Nigeria was accused of varying degrees of misconduct, including spearheading some of Buhari’s questionable decisions, like the 2020 EndSARS massacre. The lawyer from Kebbi state was also accused of amassing unexplained wealth, which he profoundly denied. Malami was said to have struck a deal with Buhari to protect himself when he realised his tenure and immunity were almost over. In a report published by Sahara Reporters on December 5, 2025, retired Nigerian Army General, Ali-Keffi, alleged that two terrorism suspects arrested during the former president Buhari administration were linked to Abubakar Malami. Barely a week after this revelation, Malami was picked up by the EFCC on December 8, 2025.
