Match Day was sixteen years ago for me, and I still remember that nervous feeling of not knowing where I'd end up. I matched into urology at University of Chicago, one of the most competitive specialties out there. My fiancé wanted to stay in New York. I was thrilled. He was quietly terrified about leaving. Looking back now, that program shaped everything. I had two babies during residency, found lifelong mentors, and built friendships I still treasure. Then came fellowship match day and we landed in Dallas, completely outside our comfort zone again. Here's what I learned: you don't always get to choose where you match, but you always get to choose what you do next. If it doesn't work out, you can switch programs. And sometimes the path you didn't plan becomes exactly what you needed. To everyone matching today: congratulations, Doctor. You've earned that title, and you're going to do wonderful things.
