Description
How to test if your multi-zone climate control is working correctly using a thermal imaging camera. For this test, I’ll be using the Kaiweets model KTI-W01. This is a great way to visually watch for a temperature change. With this color scale, the colder temperatures are indicated by blue while the bright orange indicates hot temperatures. #kaiweets #thermalimaging #autorepair

This can be tested in the warmer or cooler months, here I’m testing this during the winter so it’s important to have the engine warmed up so the system can push out heat.
This is a dual zone system, so the driver and passenger sides are able to be adjusted individually. First is putting the system on the highest heat setting for both sides. With temperature adjustments, it may take a couple of minutes for it to fully show. This will vary between each vehicle. The highest temperature coming out of the vents was above 57c or 135f.
Now changing the one side to the lowest setting and leaving the other on the highest, this does take a couple of minutes for it to change.
As you can see by the difference in colors, the temperature is slowly changing.
After a few minutes, there’s an extreme difference with the cooler vents reading about 21c or 70f. It would be best to switch sides and do the same test. If you’re not noticing a difference or is a very small difference, then there is an issue with the climate control system, this could be anything from the heater valves, blend doors, climate control switch panel, etc.
