Repairing WORN OUT Suspension Parts for a Mining Truck! 🛠️ | Machining & Welding

Watch us tackle worn-out suspension parts for a massive CAT 785 mining truck — precision machining and expert welding to bring it back to life! We’ve rebuilt these top caps before, so we won’t go too deep into that, but this one threw us a curveball — a crack at the base of the spigot that meant even more machining before we could start welding. Kurtis gets stuck into some manual welding, then it’s a quick setup under our shop made bore welding stand for external welding of the spigot using our Sir Meccanica bore welder. While that’s doing its thing, we head over to the milling machine to sort out the worn bore on the bearing mount. With the help of an adjustable boring head and a fair bit of precision, we clean it up and then get to work on making a custom sleeve on the lathe. There’s turning, boring, grooving and parting — but when it comes time for an interference fit, we find out the liquid nitrogen has evaporated. So we go old school and break out the oxy torch to get the bearing mount hot and expand to fit the sleeve. While that’s cooling, we finish machining the spigot on the top cap before completing the job of boring the sleeve in the bearing mount to a tight 0.1 mm interference fit for the spherical bearing.
