Let's talk about cancer vaccines today. Cancer vaccines can be of two types. The ones that give prevention of cancer, like the one we use for cervical cancer and the second ones, which we are going to talk about, are the ones that control cancer, that reduce the risk of relapse and that shrink the tumour. So, as I was telling you, cancer vaccines are like a smart army to your body. They train your immune system, and this immune system curbs the cancer. It reduces the cancer coming back. It reduces its size and controls the cancer. As we all know, in Delhi NCR, a combination of pollution and tobacco consumption is an important risk factor for cancer. Annually, we see a surge of 1.5 lakh cancer cases in Delhi NCR. So it becomes important for us to stay updated on any cancer information. So let's see how these cancer vaccines can make a difference. We will discuss these cancer vaccines by virtue of their origin, by their cost, efficacy, treatment type and how they may be made available to India. So number one is one from the United States. These are made by two important companies, Moderna and BioNTech. So they have tested one cancer vaccine. It is a messenger RNA vaccine, mRNA-4157, which is used along with injection Keytruda or Pembrolizumab, which is an immunotherapy drug. It was prepared within 4 weeks. The way to prepare it is by collecting the biopsy and then letting the AI or the computer software detect the weak immune spots, and then preparing the immune system, the vaccine, against those weak spots, and then it is administered along with immunotherapy. It was used specifically for melanoma, which is a type of skin cancer, and it was most beneficial, especially after early surgery. So it gives the best benefits in early cases of skin cancer. It has given the benefit to reduce the relapse rate by 50%. And its approximate cost is to the tune of around $100,000, which translates to around 91 lakh rupees. Indians may participate in this through clinical trials, but right now, it is not directly available in India. The next vaccine is from the UK. Again, it is used in skin cancer and pancreatic cancer. The UK government plans to administer around 10,000 jabs to their people, and by 2027, it will be made available. Its cost is less. The approximate cost is 40 to 65 lakhs Indian national rupees. Probably, if India participates in the trial, maybe it could be available in India, but right now, again, it is not very feasible when it comes to cost and availability. Next comes the Chinese vaccines. China has tested various trials, approximately 89 trials over a period of the last 10–12 years, and they have seen benefits in various cancers, including liver cancer, which is quite common in China. It reduces the risk of relapse and shrinks the tumour by 40 to 50%. The cost is much lower, from 8 lakhs to around 25 lakhs, and maybe through various portals or organisations like BRICS, if China shares this technology with us, we should be able to use it. Next is the Russian vaccine. It is a Sputnik-like vaccine, the one that was used for COVID, and again, it is a vaccine used for skin cancer and brain tumours. It has also shown benefits. It has shown tumour shrinkage to the tune of 40 to 50%. The cost is again comparable to China, to the tune of 10 to 20 lakhs. Easy access and maybe, along with India, it can be made in collaboration between the countries in the factories of both countries and may be made available to both countries.
