Our Gopro Max 2 review! Is it the best 360 camera? It has some very tough competition from DJI X5 and Insta360. Overall I think it is eclipsed by the Insta360 X5 for most users. But for motorbike riders I think the Gopro has a few features that place it just ahead of the competition. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. First? A quick history. I got the Insta360 One X instead as I refused to use my phone for editing. Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. For years Insta360 was consistently seen as the best 360 camera. But the Gopro Max 2 has finally made the required changes to catch up. Today? All three cameras are very good in this Gopro Max 2 review. The first Gopro Max was introduced in 2019. It didn't sell well. You could only edit the video footage on your phone. And Insta360 had excellent editing software that you could use on your computer. I doubt you would regret buying any of them. If you read the best detailed reviews, the Insta360 5X generally comes up on top for most users. But for motorbike riders, I believe the Gopro Max 2 will have the edge.
If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. First? The design of the Gopro is better for riders. It's squat design means you can fit the camera easily on a 'chin bar' mount and use it in single lens mode as a normal action cam. The Gopro is also 200 grams lighter than the Insta360 so there will be less wobbling when it's on a selfie stick. The Gopro's record button is the easiest to use while wearing gloves too as discovered in our Gopro Max 2 review. Lenses! These can get damaged easily and need replacing. The Gopro wins here. Just unscrew it. Screw the new one on. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. The Insta360 takes longer as you need tools to remove the lenses. The DJI is worst. You have to send the camera away to have DJI technicians do the work. GoPro has both the standard ¼” mount and foldable GoPro fingers that magnetically snap into place. Wherever you mount it the shape mans you are slightly less likely to hit anything while moving. The case feels stronger than the other two cameras and the screen is smaller. Normally a big screen is an advantage but of course for motorbike riding a big screen is more vulnerable. The other two only have the standard ¼” mount. Image quality? In normal daylight most tests show little difference although some rank Gopro as the best by a small amount. However its usually ranks as the worst in low light conditions but generally motorbike riders are not filming at night. Everyone is trying to sell you stuff you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model with anodized coffee cup holders for your trips to the coffee shop. Of course if you are cashed up and into bling, go for it. All we are saying is there's also the budget option for adventure riding. And it won't hold you back. Why? We reckon it's 80% the rider and 20% the bike. So the Cross Training Adventure focus is just get out there and have fun on two wheels. Instead of obsessing over the latest blinged out Beemer, which tyres to fit or spending a fortune on your suspension or billet alloy gas cap. So most of our adventure riding vids will feature the much loved bush pig, the Suzuki DR650. And we've done a 10 part series on how to unleash the mighty beast that lurks within. What else? Cross Training Adventure actively avoids sponsorship. We like doing seriously critical reviews. Manufacturers make some really bad mistakes. and there is a lot of dodgy crap being sold out there. Instead of glowing dual sport reviews for kickbacks or free product, we will try to keep the buggers honest. So subscribe. Or don't subscribe to our Cross Training Adventure riding channel. The main thing is get out and ride while you can with dual sport riding or Adventure riding in Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Romania and beyond! So check out Cross Training Adventure.
