The former Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs premiership winner was hit in the shoulder and leg in what police believe was a targeted drive by attack. The gunmen fled in a vehicle later found burned out, and a series of linked shootings and car fires across western Sydney are now under investigation by the Raptor Squad. Utai is believed to be an innocent victim, although attention has turned to his son Iziah, who has a criminal history and past links to underworld figures. Two offenders remain at large. Also in Sydney, Strike Force Mundrabilla charged two men over the alleged supply of large quantities of methylamphetamine, seizing drugs, a loaded firearm, cash and luxury watches during raids across the city’s west. In Perth, a Comanchero member Pirikatea Wyllie has been charged over alleged threats tied to the state’s tobacco war, while a Rebels bikie was jailed for nearly seven years over a failed daylight shooting at a rival in Baldivis. In Melbourne, three men including a patched Bandidos member were arrested over an alleged $663,000 blackmail demand, as part of a wider crackdown on organised crime in the construction sector. Back in Sydney, Luke “Fat Boy” Sparos has been publicly named as the man accused of orchestrating the 2023 murder of Comanchero figure Alen Moradian, allegedly over a drug debt dispute. He is contesting the charges. Queensland police charged two people after allegedly seizing cocaine worth more than $100,000 at Airlie Beach, while a major cross border operation dismantled an alleged $14 million cocaine syndicate accused of hiding 100 kilograms inside timber. Finally, in Victoria’s north west, police uncovered a $10 million cannabis farm with 4,700 plants, charging four men as a fifth remains on the run, with a separate $10 million seizure also made in southern New South Wales. However, it will be interesting to see how these investigations unfold as police continue targeting organised crime networks across the country.
