as usual - a small few can manage to ruin it for the rest of us, and the body positivity movement is no different. what began as a rebellion againt the unrealistic body beauty standards that told women they had to fit a certain set of rules to be beautiful - white, thin, able-bodied and young; a brave bunch of women decided to stand up and show their imperfect bodies in all their glory. this was meant to be a celebration of womankind, to show that we are more than our bodies, and that we dont need to meet the beauty standards to feel good in our bodies. but just like with other movements, a few savvy women spied an opportunity to make money. which isn't necassarily a bad thing, it's actually very intelligent. but the problem is - when you're essentially selling vulnerability as your product - it can really muddy the waters between something that is standing for female empowerment - and simply using a popular movement to make a quick buck.
