Verse 2 And when May follows after, And swallows grace the skies, The whitethroat builds in silence, Where pear-boughs lean and rise. See—blossoms fall on clovered ground, And thrush repeats his silver sound; He sings each song twice over, Lest joy should die too soon, Lest wonder fade too soon. Verse 3 (Bridge) Though far from field and morning dew, My heart still walks those lanes anew; For no bright bloom beneath this sun Can match that fair remembered one— The buttercups at noon.
