Watching Concrete Fill These Walls Is Satisfying

Is there anything more satisfying than watching concrete poured? I don’t think so. We just poured 50 yards of concrete for the foundation on a new house we’re building. The guys used a pump truck to get the concrete into the wall forms. The concrete gets dumped into the hopper on the pump truck, then it’s pumped through a long line way up into the air and down into the walls. This is all done by remote control. If the concrete is too stiff it won’t flow but if it’s too wet the walls will shrink and crack. Like I said, everyone likes to watch concrete being poured- even the neighbor stopped by. The guys used these long sticks to work the concrete to make sure there’s no voids, and when they’re waiting between trucks, they use a cordless vibrator to help get air out of the concrete. One thing’s for sure, mistakes in concrete are not easy to fix; so, they’re constantly checking to make sure the walls are straight, level, and square. Honestly, if your foundation is out, you can chase problems through framing all the way up to the roof.
