Título: The Bourbaki degree of plane curves
Resumo: A plane algebraic curve is said to be free if the module of syzygies for the associated Jacobian map is a free module. The study of free curves (especially line arrangements) has been a topic of great interest in algebraic geometry for the past 45 years, with a vast literature. I will present a new invariant, called the Bourbaki degree, that measures how far from being free a plane curve is, and show how this concept can be further generalized in other contexts, as well as open questions concerning the new invariant.
