Description
No injuries or fires have been reported after a CN train derailed in St. Catharines Monday morning.
A Niagara Regional Police spokesperson tells CHCH News that the derailment happened east of Glendale Avenue near Keele Street.
A CN Rail official says there are a number of derailed rail cars in various positions.
“A non-dangerous good called polyethylene, a product used in the manufacturing of household plastics, spilled from one of the railcars,” says Michelle Hannan, a media relations advisor with CN Rail. “There is no danger to the public.”
However, Lakeshore West GO trains are currently unable to stop at St. Catharines and Niagara Falls GO stations as a result of the derailment.
“CN would like to apologize for the inconveniences caused by this incident,” Hannan says.
