Description
This day marked a HUGE milestone in my career as a photographer, and the beginning of a great relationship with my friends at Sony.
For those who don’t know me or my work, I photograph strangers (and dogs) on the street. My ONE rule is that every interaction has to be random - nothing staged or preplanned.
But this particular interaction was truly serendipitous. I truly couldn’t believe how perfect everything turned out.
—
I was doing a collaboration with the team at Sony Japan.
If you’ve ever been to Shibuya Crossing, you know it’s a super chaotic area lol.
You might think this would make it easier to find someone to photograph; but it’s actually WAY more difficult in a crowded area.
People are moving quickly, trying to get from point A to point B.
It’s also loud, so it’s way more difficult to get someone’s attention.
But I was determined to make it work.
—
Since this was a collaboration with Sony, I wanted to photograph someone extra special.
I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking for…
We stood there for nearly 30 minutes waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
So many amazing, stylish people walked past us - but not the person I was looking for.
And then finally, at the last second…
I spotted this stylish guy with blue glasses and camera walk by.
Bingo 🎯
—
I knew right away that he was the one.
So I chased after him through the crowd, dodging tourists & locals.
I stopped him - and took him by surprise.
Then I looked down and realized the camera he was carrying was a Sony.
PERFECT 💙
I asked if I could take his photo, and Momo graciously said yes.
—
As it turns out, Momo is famous Japanese photographer, who is known for his incredible posing videos on Instagram.
My Japanese is limited, but I had a member of the Sony team there with me to help translate (thanks Kazuki!).
Now typically photographers hate being on the other side of the lens…
But because I knew he taught posing, I knew he’d crush it as a model.
We got started… and YUP, my man delivered! 😮💨
—
The whole moment was very serendipitous.
Being in Japan with Sony, at one of the most iconic areas of Tokyo, and randomly running into a famous Japanese photographer - who also just so happens to shoot with Sony cameras.
It’s like it was meant to be. ✨
There’s been so many more moments like this during this project, maybe I’ll share more as time goes on. But for now - I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has supported this project.
None of this would be possible without y’all. 🙏
