20% off merch for Father's Day — use code FATHERS2026: https://sbmowing.com/shop I got a message from a woman telling me her mom really needed some help. So I headed over and knocked on the door to see what I could do. Turns out her story goes a lot deeper than I expected. Years back she injured her neck while she was working, but she put off getting it fixed because she couldn't really afford it at the time. By the time she was finally able to get surgery, some permanent damage had already been done. They had to fuse a couple things in her neck, and the whole situation makes it really hard for her to get around and leaves her in a lot of pain. About three years ago she got medically terminated from her job, and on top of all that, she's raising a couple of young teenage boys. Her yard had gotten completely out of control. When she inherited this home there was trash and junk piled up everywhere, and even though most of it had already been hauled off, there was still a lot left behind. So we got to work. We spent the entire day loading my trailer, and luckily the family pitched in, so I ended up making three trips to the dump. After that I cut down all the tall grass, weeded everything, and pulled out the volunteer trees that had grown up around the garage and the house. The one thing I couldn't touch was the poison ivy. It was on every corner of this property, climbing the trees in vines so thick there was no safe way to get it down. So I cleared everything else and showed them exactly where it was so nobody touches it. When I finished, she could barely do anything but cry. She hadn't seen the place look this good in almost as long as she could remember. So be sure to stay until the very end to see her reaction. But we also did something special. Talking with her daughter, I found out the family had been saving up and running bake sales to buy an electric wheelchair and a ramp. What I didn't realize is that since she lost her job, she's been waiting on disability with almost no income. So through my nonprofit, SB Moves Forward, we got her exactly what she needed so she can start getting around on her own again. Thank you to everyone who supports the nonprofit, because that's the only reason I'm able to do things like this.
