Welcome to Episode 20 of Silk Road Trip Part 2: Road to Kabul. In this episode, I leave Jalalabad and begin my journey toward Nuristan — one of the most remote and isolated regions in the world. The road to Nuristan is filled with Taliban checkpoints, but every interaction turns out surprisingly friendly. As I get closer, the landscape transforms dramatically — towering mountains, brutal roads, and some of the roughest terrain of the entire trip. Nuristan feels like a completely different world. The culture is unique, the people look strikingly different, and everywhere I go curious locals gather around me. I’m invited for chai, meet incredible people, and experience a side of Afghanistan few outsiders ever get to see. But then things take a turn. Darkness falls while I’m still deep in the mountains. Rain begins. Landslides block the road. The track turns into mud and swamp. Then my motorcycle starts developing clutch and revving issues while climbing uphill. Stranded in the middle of nowhere… …until road construction workers unexpectedly offer me shelter for the night. What follows is one of the most memorable nights of the trip — amazing food, warm hospitality, and unforgettable stories in the heart of Nuristan. The next morning, I wake up surrounded by breathtaking Nuristani mountains… but now comes the real challenge: How do you repair a broken motorcycle in one of the most inaccessible places on Earth?
