Description
The Odisha chapter officially comes to a close in this video. Today's ride is a massive 12-hour, 600-kilometer push starting from the shores of Chilika Lake and ending in Bardhaman, West Bengal.
The morning kicked off with intense heat and brutal coastal humidity, making the start of the journey physically heavy. Fortunately, the highway infrastructure in Odisha was phenomenal. The smooth tarmac allowed for a consistent cruising speed and made the early hours of the ride relatively easy. That excellent road quality held up perfectly as I crossed the state border into West Bengal, and the run all the way to Kharagpur was completely hassle-free.
But that is exactly where the momentum died. Just after Kharagpur, Google Maps decided to reroute the journey away from the main highways and straight through the interior village routes. The road conditions instantly plummeted from smooth cruising to broken, pathetic dirt tracks. Navigating the bike through these narrow, deteriorating stretches completely killed the pace and turned the final hours of the ride into an absolute grind.
By the time I finally pulled into Bardhaman, it had been 12 exhausting hours in the saddle. The only real relief was the shift in the climate. Moving away from the coast meant the extreme humidity finally broke. It wasn't exactly a pleasant, cool evening, but the drop in temperature was a noticeable upgrade from how the day began.
Odisha has been an incredible leg of the trip, but we are finally in West Bengal.
