33 days to go until the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. And here in Trentino, this is how preparations begin: in a mountain hut in Val di Fiemme, the volunteers working at the competition venues practice saying “welcome” in the languages of people arriving from all over the world. They correct each other, laugh, and help one another. It’s from these simple gestures that everything starts: the gestures of a community preparing together, with pride and a strong sense of belonging. Because “welcome” is an easy word but you immediately know when it’s said for real, from the heart.
