FInding and polishing golden fossils in New Zealand

In this video I find some rare pyritized nautiloids, probably arturia, here in New Zealand and experiment with different polishing methods to bring out their natural metallic shine. These fossils are around 10 million years old, preserved with iron pyrite that gives them a striking golden sheen once polished. Along the way I test a few techniques, push my tools a bit too far, and end up breaking my drill press in the process. The final result is a stunning Arturia nautiloid, transformed into a piece of natural fossil art that really shows how beautiful pyritization can be when it’s prepared carefully.
