Classified as one of the most advanced and ambitious truck concepts developed by the Soviet Union, the MAZ-2000, also known as Perestroika, was a unit developed by the Minsk Automobile Plant in the late 1980s. This project aimed to revolutionize the transport industry through a fully modular architecture, in which the cab, drive system, steering, and cargo spaces could be assembled and adapted according to operational needs.
Although on paper, the built prototypes managed to demonstrate some success varying in power and configuration to cargo capacities reaching up to 80 tons with motorized trailers the project arrived at a terrible time. After being praised at an exhibition in Paris in 1988, the collapse of the Soviet Union, along with other implications for infrastructure and driver adaptability, took with it the interest in this proposal. Today, the last prototype of the Perestroika remains as a monument that serves as a symbol of the visionary idea that was ahead of its time.
