Description
I was digging this basement for a custom home we’re building when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.
At first, I thought it was rock, but when I tapped on it, I could tell it was metal.
I hooked it with one of the teeth on the skid steer bucket to pull it out of the ground.
It almost looks like a piece of well casing.
I wonder if this was used as a culvert pipe years ago.
You never know what you’re going to run into when you’re excavating, but if you look at a bank of dirt it can tell you a lot.
This ground is different than anything I’ve ever seen in our area.
Normally we have clay and limestone rock, but this soil is really sandy with round river rocks.
The deeper I dug, the bigger the rocks got.
A neighbor stopped by while I was digging and he said this is somewhat normal in this part of the county.
To me these look like sandstones- does anyone know what kind of rock these are?
I was really impressed with how my CAT 265 dug up these rocks, but I’m planning to bring out an excavator to finish the job.
Let me know in the comments what size CAT excavator should I rent? @hausplans
