Brian Callaghan was one of Australia’s most respected speedway sedan racers. Rising to prominence in the 1970s, he became famous for driving his silver supercharged Holden Torana XU-1 at Liverpool Speedway, where he won major events including the Marlboro 100-lap Grand National races in 1975 and 1976. Callaghan also competed successfully in Australian touring car racing and made multiple starts in the Bathurst 1000 during the 1980s and early 1990s. The Brian Callaghan Memorial race is held each year to honour his contribution to Australian motorsport and to celebrate the spirit of grassroots speedway racing. This 47 lap feature event at Cullen Bullen Raceway keeps the memory of Brian Callaghan alive for fans and competitors alike.
