Description
Three years ago we asked whether good electric adventure motorbikes were just around the corner. The answer was 'Of course not!' There was insufficient range. The batteries are still so heavy. They take too long to recharge. There is the small but serious risk of fire. Where do you recharge in remote areas? Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. They are too expensive. And conspiracy theorists have added a pile of crackpot ideas to the mix. However, the required breakthrough in battery technology might be just around the corner. One manufacturer claims it is already here. But first let's acknowledge how electric motorbikes polarise riders. Some riders would rather stab a rusty nail into their eyes than be seen sitting on an electric motorbike. If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. At the other extreme? The techno-nerds. Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. They are so passionate about e-motorbikes that they believe every exaggerated claim by the manufacturers. That major breakthrough is just months away! They ignore all the drawbacks and issues. Me? I take the middle road. I'm sceptical of manufacturer's claims. For example I was very sceptical of the Stark Varg when it was first announced. When I finally rode it two years later I was seriously impressed and I had to acknowledge that most of the manufacturer's claims were accurate. So I'm looking forward to decent electric motorbikes and will change over when they are finally good enough. But I fully understand why many prefer to stay with their internal combustion engines. So what are the miracle cures that are allegedly around the corner? Anode-Free/Lithium-Metal Batteries. These are rumoured to double battery density while lowering costs. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. Sodium-ion Batteries claim better performance in extreme cold, better capacity, and cheaper to produce than lithium ion batteries. Silicon-Enhanced Anodes. The graphite anodes will be enhanced with silicon for increased capacity and faster charging. Solid-State Batteries. These replace the liquid electrolytes for greater capacity, faster charging, no risk of fire, and unaffected by low temperatures. These solid state batteries are likely to be the next breakthrough. Why? Major manufacturers like Toyota, BMW, and Hyundai have existing prototypes and claim to have them in production over the next two years. And there's a motorbike brand called Verge who claims to have solid state batteries in their 2026 models. 124mph top speed. 10 minute charging. 136HP. And a 370 mile range. So what are the advantages of solid state batteries? Around twice as much energy storage as current lithium ion batteries. Around 25% lighter which is great for motorbikes. Faster charging. Good performance down to -30C. Longer lifespan. And there's no fire danger. We have occasional detours to places like Vietnam, Cambodia, Romania and Canada. This is one of our three channels, there's also a Cross Training Trials channel, and a Cross Training Enduro channel. All three are equally dodgy. We are the 27th most watched dirt channel in Uzbekistan. We have won the polished turd award five years in a row. And we have a world record 25 class action lawsuits for inaccurate information. We think the whole motorbike scene is getting too commercial. So called dual sport riding reviews are just glossy ads nowdays. Of course if you are cashed up and into bling, go for it. All we are saying is there's also the budget option for adventure riding. So the Cross Training Adventure focus is just get out there and have fun on two wheels. Instead of obsessing over the latest blinged out Beemer, which tyres to fit or spending a fortune on your suspension or billet alloy gas cap. So most of our adventure riding vids will feature the much loved bush pig, the Suzuki DR650. And we've done a 10 part series on how to unleash the mighty beast that lurks within. What else? Cross Training Adventure actively avoids sponsorship. We like doing seriously critical reviews. Manufacturers make some really bad mistakes. and there is a lot of dodgy crap being sold out there. Instead of glowing dual sport reviews for kickbacks or free product, we will try to keep the buggers honest. So subscribe. Or don't subscribe to our Cross Training Adventure riding channel. The main thing is get out and ride while you can with dual sport riding or Adventure riding in Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Romania and beyond! So check out Cross Training Adventure.
