Description
As we reach mid way through the 16th week since being found as a baby I arrived later than usual, again, for several reasons that includes the fact that he is always accompanied by an adult or two but primarily because I have not fed him for 4 days,to find Marcel conversing with the lady of the house whilst sitting on the back door grill.Apparently he had been outside on the wrought iron glass topped table for 30/45 minutes trying to find his " Raven " voice without much success if what I was privy too is any example,as usual my phone was overloaded with other material & by the time I deleted sufficient to create enough space he had given up and was on to other things. The spot where he is standing seems to afford Marcel an ideal view of the tube steel above his head where he locates a hole on the underneath of this tube and he promptly sticks his beak right into the hole.It is quite funny that these birds are very very cautious when it comes to some things with their primary concern being to avoid capture, for example they are reluctant to enter into a building through a door/window for fear of being trapped however they will readily stick their beak into a tube or pipe/bottle or similar receptacle with a neck,so to speak although this may be a trait that is exclusive to this particular bird.
Marcel was found on the ground in the last week of July after a very stormy night, after ringing a few places i was instructed to take him to specific vet surgery where i was advised that he was a raven, healthy, unlikely to have fallen to ground & he was a fledgling & " should be returned to where he was found his parents will look after him ".
unfortunately this was not the case and it was 4/5 days before the parents came near him,he also had a talon missing from a rear toe that became quite swollen & infected in the weeks that followed needing treatment,it was paw paw ointment that cleared it up after having no success with other conventional treatments.Although the only sure fire way to accurately identify the gender of a raven is by blood/dna test Marcel has been declared a male for a number of reasons with the primary one coming from my 15 yr old daughter who has declared that " that bird has to be a male.because its just so annoying " fortunately she avoids Marcel otherwise he might think his name is/was " stupid bird " admittedly the poor kid was swooped by a maggie as a five year old & it appears that it has left her quite scarred.
