Description
Learning how to ride a 65cc and change gears as a 5 year old who until fairly recently was scared of petrol (esp 2 stroke) bikes.
This was filmed at Lee Dunham Racing (LDR training facility) with Lee Dunham himself coaching a group of Kawasaki riders. It was Harley's 3rd ever time riding on the 65cc and he even had a go at learning some race starts using the clutch to pull away!
As Harley was outgrowing his EE3/E5 electric bike and no 65 electric version (or race series) is currently available we got him a pit bike help him transition from the electric motocross bikes to petrol.
The pit bike is a 4 stroke and as such low on the power... the noise is much quieter and the bike has no clutch, it's semi automatic. This was Harley got used to changing gears and riding on a 'noisy' petrol bike!
So after a few weeks riding the pit bike we decided to get Harley a 65cc ready for his 6th birthday - the plan was to hide it away and spend a few months doing it up ready for him. But in the process of purchasing it second hand we had to meet up to collect the bike... of course he spotted it!!!!!
So we let him have a sit on it in the car park - 'RIGHT! Time to get off it and put it away!'
Back home we let him kick start it himself... which turned into him having a go with the clutch and changing gears (in his crocs!! Check the video clip on our insta and YouTube shorts!)
And somehow this evolved into 'let's let him have a little go... while the weather is nice?'
So although this was filmed a few months ago we then did have to take the bike back off Harley to get the work it needed done (it was second hand after all) and this week he's got it back and we're now learning how to ride a 65cc in the wet!!!! *videos to come!*
Huge thanks to Lee Dunham for what was the most enjoyable way to learn how to ride the 65cc - he thoroughly explains each technique in ways that each rider understood and was challenged: from Harley as a beginner at changing gears through to the much more experienced riders like Angelica Bennett (@thebennettsistersracing on Insta!)
And thanks to Adam for the nutrition, fitness and warm up work - he made that so informative AND fun!!! (@always_developing41 on Insta!)
