El Museo del Barrio: A Focused Look at Latinx Art. April 9, 2026 Located at 1230 Fifth Avenue at 104th Street, El Museo del Barrio is the premier institution for Latinx and Latin American art in the U.S. While most of the galleries are currently being refreshed, I caught the one featured exhibition currently open to the public. This limited access makes for a much more intimate visit, allowing you to really dive into the specific themes and artists on display. You can check their current status and hours at elmuseo.org. After taking in the exhibit, I headed to the museum shop, which is easily one of the best spots on Museum Mile for unique finds. They carry an incredible selection of handcrafted jewelry, vibrant home goods, and books that you won't find anywhere else.
