Alcohol tax rising Wednesday, as MP's receive raises

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is once again taking aim at the federal tax increase on alcohol on April 1st, while on the same day increasing the salaries for Members of Parliament. The excise duty increase on beer, spirits and wine is set to increase by two percent this Wednesday and generate $41,000,000 in the next fiscal year, signaling another automatic annual increase since 2017 without a vote in parliament. The CTF calls the move a “cruel April Fool’s joke on Canadians” and is calling for the alcohol tax increase and the pay hike to be scrapped.
