Getting Out of a Coal Mine Is the Scariest Part

Going down into these coal mines is extremely dangerous, but getting back out can be even worse. You see, these workers are lowered hundreds of feet underground in a makeshift platform, controlled by an operator using a pulley system. After spending hours down there, they can’t simply yell to be brought back up because the distance is way too far. So instead, they pull really hard on a wire to signal the operator that they’re ready to come up, and the cage is pulled back to the surface.
