Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher’s love story is a beautiful tale of second chances, resilience, and companionship. Both were married before fate brought them together as best friends in the Chandigarh Theatre Group. Anupam, stuck in an unhappy arranged marriage from 1979, found solace in Kirron’s friendship in 1980, while she too was in a struggling marriage with businessman Gautam Berry. Their connection deepened over years of travelling together for theatre, sharing aspirations and personal struggles. Meanwhile, Anupam, after graduating from the National School of Drama, also moved to Mumbai to carve a space for himself in the film industry. Their bond remained strong, and in 1982, Anupam finally got his big break in cinema. It was during a theatre trip that Anupam realised his feelings and confessed his love to Kirron, leading to an undeniable shift in their relationship. Both ended their respective marriages and tied the knot in a private ceremony in Gurgaon in 1985, with close friends from their theatre days witnessing the new beginning. Their journey together was filled with love, struggles, and sacrifices. In the early years of their marriage, Kirron and their son Sikandar often accompanied Anupam on his shoots abroad. However, the couple faced financial difficulties when Anupam turned producer and borrowed heavily, leading Kirron to restart her acting career to support the family. They encountered difficult times, with Kirron later admitting that three to four years of their marriage were particularly challenging, but she emerged stronger, learning to travel and live independently. Through all highs and lows, they remained each other’s pillar of strength. In 2021, Anupam and Sikandar confirmed Kirron’s diagnosis with blood cancer, a phase that once again tested their resilience. Yet, just as they had always done, they faced it together, proving that their love story is truly one of unwavering support and companionship.
