The undisputed facts: the Dunblane Primary School shooting on 13 March 1996: Thomas Hamilton murdered 16 children (mostly aged 5–6) and their teacher Gwen Mayor, injuring 15 others. It remains the deadliest mass shooting in British history and directly led to the near-total ban on handguns. Lowe went on to complain that the law change meant his late father lost the pistols he used for clay pigeon shooting at Oxford University.
