The journey begins in Lake Placid, known as the “Town of Murals,” before stopping at the whimsical Toby’s Clown School and Museum and the towering Lake Placid observation tower. Along the way we visit the historic Harder Hall resort in Sebring, try orange ice cream at the last citrus packing house in Highlands County, and check out everything from a graffiti-covered railroad bridge to the site of the first Publix supermarket. The adventure continues through forgotten places like the phosphate mining ghost town of Brewster, unique museums, and even a cemetery tied to the devastating 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane. The day wraps up on Florida’s east coast with stops in Jupiter and at the easternmost point of the state, proving that Florida is full of strange, fascinating, and unexpected places waiting to be discovered.
