Rep. Chip Roy wants to 'stop the flood of Islamists into Texas'

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), who is headed into a runoff in the race for Texas Attorney General, has made criticism of "Islamists" a central tenet of his campaign, as Islamophobic rhetoric continues to be a rising trend among GOP candidates. He told The Post he is going to make it his "fundamental mission, as the Attorney General of Texas, to stop the flood of Islamists into Texas." Lawmakers from Texas have led the negative posts about Muslims and Islam this year, and Roy has made the most — more than 130 posts since January, according to an analysis by The Washington Post. "No more Muslims," Roy wrote in a post over the weekend. In another, he declared Texas “under assault” while defending the state’s designation of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil rights group, as a terrorist organization. Roy answered rapid-fire questions on religious protections, abortion rights in Texas and more.
