Description

Our long-term review of the Dango Gripper Mount after 10 years of abuse! We think it's the best all-purpose action cam mount for all action cams. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. Where you mount your action cam is important for safety reasons AND getting the best perspective in this Dango Gripper Mount review. Years ago many of us put our Gopro cams on the top or side of our helmet where they could be easily snagged. Some of us used chest mounts to get that immersive feel but the camera was often pointing too high or low and it would shake too much. Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. Helmet cam videos can be so boring when it's just the one endless video of chasing the motorbike in front. The Dango Gripper Mount provides a lot more variation to keep your videos interesting. Into filming motorbikes? If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. The best compromise is a removable helmet chin mount. It's a lot safer as it won't catch on passing branches. In an accident it will slide off which will reduce rotational forces that can lead to brain injuries. Remember to check out our handy tips we have compiled over the past 15 years. What about you? Any favourite camera mounts other than the Dango Gripper Mount? What are some of the greatest tools you've found to get better video footage? Let us know in the comments! And if you use the widest camera angle you still have that immersive feel as the handlebars are almost always visible. For the past 10 years I have been using this Dango Gripper Mount. It has the added advantage of being removed easily. If you feel comfortable riding with one hand, you can get all sorts of great camera angles. Stand on the footpegs and hold the camera high for drone-style video. Hold it low to skim the ground. You can film your buddies riding past and watch the rear screen to ensure you are framing the video well. Film your own motorbike. Sometimes I carry a three metre telescopic pole and just put the Gripper Mount on the end for more drone-style videos. A handy feature of the Gripper Mount is the camera doesn't get in the way or block your vision, but you can set it up so that you can see the red recording light so you always know if it's recording or not. The audible beeps for turning the camera on and off are also much easier to hear. If you want to record your voice, it also comes out much clearer. Is this adventure riding or enduro? We think the whole motorbike scene is getting too commercial. So called dual sport riding reviews are just glossy ads nowdays. Everyone is trying to sell you stuff you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model with anodized coffee cup holders for your trips to the coffee shop. Of course if you are cashed up and into bling, go for it. All we are saying is there's also the budget option for adventure riding. And it won't hold you back. Why? We reckon it's 80% the rider and 20% the bike. The clamp is extremely strong but as with any mount I like to use some kind of tether just in case the camera did fall off. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. The rubberised teeth will ensure a firm grip. Over the past 10 years I found the Gripper Mount worked perfectly on my enduro helmets but there was one adventure helmet where it would gradually slip lower and lower due to the helmet having a strange shape. You can also twist the mount quickly if you want to rotate the camera to the vertical position. In various countries it is actually illegal to mount action cams to your helmet. The Gripper Mount makes it harder to see you are using a helmet cam. And if you see the police approaching you can always slip the camera quickly into your jacket or clip it to your backpack straps. The biggest feature for me has been the creative angles. We have occasional detours to places like Vietnam, Cambodia, Romania and Canada. This is one of our three channels, there's also a Cross Training Trials channel, and a Cross Training Enduro channel. All three are equally dodgy. We are the 27th most watched dirt channel in Uzbekistan. We have won the polished turd award five years in a row. And we have a world record 25 class action lawsuits for inaccurate information.
