E-BIKE DRIVER ASKS FOR CLEAR ROUTES AND PROTECTION AS LTO REINFORCES NATIONAL ROAD BAN
LOOK: Thirty-year-old E-bike driver Rio Cabigon expressed that while he is fully aware of the prohibition against driving or crossing national roads and highways, he hopes the local and national governments will provide clear and safe alternative routes where E-bike drivers can legally pass without risking apprehension.
Cabigon also appealed that they should be allowed to access roads near schools around the Carbon Market area, noting that many of their passengers are students who rely on E-bikes for daily transportation.
This comes as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) strictly enforces its policy beginning January 2, 2026, which includes apprehension and impounding of light electric vehicles, such as E-bikes and E-trikes, caught traversing national roads and highways, due to safety risks and potential road hazards.
Cabigon shared that E-bike drivers are already aware of these regulations, and local government units have long reminded them of the restrictions. Aside from the national road ban, E-bikes are also not allowed to overload passengers.
He told the MyTV Cebu News Team that his work as an E-bike driver has been a vital source of livelihood, helping him provide for his partner and three children.
