Description

Restoration of an extremely rare trench pickaxe used by a U.S. soldier from the 101st Airborne Division during World War 2. Discovered in Bastogne, Belgium, this relic was left behind following the intense Battle of Bastogne in 1944, a pivotal part of the larger Battle of the Bulge. ABOUT THE WW2 PICKAXE This historical artifact is a genuine Mattock Plumb model from 1942, extensively utilized by the Allied forces during the war in Europe. I personally recovered this pickaxe during my trip to Belgium, where it had been hidden away for over 75 years alongside other remarkable WW2 relics. THE RESTORATION PROCESS Watch me carefully clean the pickaxe to reveal its hidden markings, clearly displaying the "U.S. PLUMB 1942" stamp. After thorough sandblasting, I welded the broken parts together and meticulously ground and polished the metal to perfection. To restore functionality and beauty, I crafted a handle from exquisite smoked U.S. oak. The World War 2 poem from the Restoration videos end screen Through smoke and flame our bonds were born, On battlefields, our oaths were sworn; Their courage fierce, their valor bright, Together faced unending night. As mountains fell and skies bled red, Our unity surged, our armies led; Eternal flames, our fates reset, Their sacrifice - our endless debt. Allies fought - never forget. I really enjoy doing this detailed restoration video showcasing the careful repair and revival of this significant historical piece.
