Description

In my last video, I synthesized trifluoronitrosomethane. It‘s a blue gas for which no real photograph could be found anywhere online. The gas I made wasn’t deep blue as the literature claimed, but more of a cyan color. However, my sample wasn’t absolutely pure and I started wondering whether the true, completely clean gas might look different. In this video, I’m making the gas again. This time, I’m starting by reacting nitrosyl chloride with silver trifluoroacetate to produce trifluoroacetylnitrite, which I will then pyrolyze to form trifluoronitrosomethane. And hopefully, I’ll finally find out what color the pure gas really has. Previous video: https://youtu.be/JLjYczBrFls Thanks to Radiacode for sponsoring today’s video!
