Again and again | Episode 1: The attack

Ten years ago, Doctors Without Borders suffered the deadliest attack in our history. US air strikes devastated our trauma hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan. Forty-two people died. Faizullah was working that night as an admissions technician and survived. A decade later, he remembers it as if it were yesterday. This attack marked a turning point in the history of attacks against the medical mission. Nearly 10 years after the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2286—passed in response to such attacks—warring parties are still failing to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law. This is the first episode of our documentary series “Again and again.” Over three episodes, we explain what an attack against civilians and medical mission in conflict contexts is, its consequences and the impunity surrounding it.
