Made famous by the British motoring show Top Gear, this legendary road offers an unforgettable experience filled with hairpin bends, breathtaking panoramas, and stunning scenery. Built in the 1970s across some of Romania’s most challenging terrain, the Transfăgărășan connects the historic regions of Transylvania and Wallachia. Stretching over 90 kilometers, it meanders through deep valleys, past dramatic cliffs, through vast forests, and past spectacular alpine peaks. One of the highlights of the route is the magnificent Lake Bâlea, a glacial lake situated at an altitude of over 2,000 meters. Surrounded by majestic mountains, it offers an exceptional natural setting and is a must-see for travelers and photography enthusiasts.
