What Happened to Jameson Is Not Rare

Jameson the Golden Retriever/Poodle/Saint Bernard mix was shot and killed by police in Los Angeles after they were mistakenly called because Jameson’s guardian was loudly celebrating the Knicks win over the weekend. Department of Justice estimates indicate that police kill over 10,000 pet dogs per year in the USA. That’s 30 dogs a day. To the state, your pet is not family. They’re property. And police use qualified immunity to routinely kill them without consequence. This is an institution that cannot be reformed. We need an alternative, like trained community response teams who can show up to care for their communities in times of crisis, instead of wielding guns and handcuffs. Do you agree?
