Photosynthesis in action. Oxygen production by tropical aquarium plants.

Aquatic plants are important to the health of a freshwater tropical aquarium. Via photosynthesis, the reaction involving sunlight, water and carbon dioxide, oxygen can be dissolved into the aquarium's water. A stream of bubbles can be seen (amidst a school of busybody guppies!) being emitted from a leaf of a Hygrophila plant.
