Description

An albino juvenile and its playmate of Japanese monkey (aka snow monkey; Macaca fuscata fuscata, family Cercopithecidae) came walking along the shore of an irrigation canal at the foot of a mountain. They began to playfully climb up and down a ladder on the concrete embankment of the deep canal, which was drained in autumn (harvest season). And then they explored the slimy bottom (2.5 m in width) of the empty canal and drank water from a shallow puddle. The young albino curiously examined the mossy slippery wall, too. There was a safety float (for those who accidentally fell in the deep canal) which was anchored to the both shores of the canal by a chain. And the two juvenile monkeys climbed the vertical wall (1.7 m in height) using the chain to reach the opposite shore. Captured in the sunny late-morning (around 11:50 AM) of mid-September 2024 in Japan. For a full story (text in Japanese); https://sigma-nature-vlog.blogspot.com/2026/05/blog-post_98.html
