In May 2020, amid unprecedented global challenges, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, a landmark mission aimed at building a self-reliant India. Rooted in the principles of ‘Vocal for Local’, ‘Local for Global’ and ‘Made for the World’, the mission aims to strengthen domestic capabilities, boost manufacturing, and position India as a key player in global supply chains. Backed by a 20 lakh crore Rs economic package during the pandemic, the initiative focused on five pillars—Economy, Infrastructure, Technology-driven systems, Demo-graphy and Demand. Over the past six years, Atmanirbhar Bharat has emerged as a key driver of reforms across manufacturing, defence, agriculture, technology, energy and innovation. Today, India is a global manufacturing and startup hub, a leading renewable energy nation, and a major exporter in sectors ranging from defence to electronics. Defence exports have surged, startups and unicorns have flourished, and business reforms have strengthened India's economic landscape. As Prime Minister Modi completes 12 years in office, Atmanirbhar Bharat stands as a key pillar of the vision for Viksit Bharat, reflecting India's growing self-reliance and emergence as a confident global economic force.
