Women still have only two-thirds of the economic rights of men worldwide. The World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law data reveals where legal reforms are driving gender equality—and where critical gaps remain. Across 190 economies, the report measures women’s economic empowerment in 10 key areas including safety, pay, childcare, entrepreneurship, property rights, and retirement systems. Since the 1970s, thousands of legal reforms have been implemented. Yet progress remains uneven. In many countries, women still face legal barriers that limit full participation in the economy.
